Heart Mountain K9 was founded in Cody, WY in 2016 by Michael and Denae Thomas. We expanded our training company to Billings, MT in 2026 and we are excited to bring quality, comprehensive training to the Billings area!

Head Trainer / Protection Specialist
Michael Thomas
An Ellis School Graduate training dogs professionally since 2012, Michael has achieved 12 different titles in protection sports and coached numerous handlers to titles on their own dogs. Highly educated and well-versed in every aspect of canine learning, he works with tri-state Police Departments and hosts industry-leading seminars.
Training Director / Obedience Specialist
Denae Thomas
Educated by Michael Ellis and expert mentors, Denae applies the science of canine learning across multiple disciplines. Training professionally since 2012, she has earned 3 protection titles and coached many handlers toward success. She specializes in high-level obedience and complex behavior modification protocols.
Managing Trainer
Jordan Heister
Studying dog training since 2024, Jordan earned the 'Elite Canine Trainer' certificate through Heart Mountain K9 Academy. She now serves as the Managing Trainer of Heart Mountain K9-Billings, overseeing daily operations and ensuring high training standards for all clients.
